Psalm 6:6-7
“I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.”
'I can't do this anymore.' The thought surfaces, quiet but clear. It's not about quitting—it's about the sheer weight of continuing. The emotional ledger is in the red. You feel drained, like a battery blinking its last warning light after powering too many things for too long. The burden has a real shape, a real weight. It makes sense that you'd feel this way.
Picture this: a person, utterly spent, lying in the dark. Tears aren't a sign of weakness here; they're the honest overflow of a soul that's been carrying too much. This is the scene in Psalm 6. 'I am worn out from my groaning,' it says. 'All night long I flood my bed with weeping... My eyes grow weak with sorrow.' This isn't a polished prayer from a stage. It's a raw, middle-of-the-night admission whispered into a pillow. God isn't recording this moment as a failure. He's receiving it as the truest form of communication—the kind that happens when you're too tired for pretty words.
Your weariness isn't a problem to solve before you come to Him. It's the exact reason you're invited. The drained feeling isn't a barrier; it's the admission ticket. He meets you in the exhaustion, not after you've rallied. The burden you're carrying? He names it. He sees the specific gravity of it—the relational strain, the silent worry, the accumulated disappointments that have led to this 'I'm worn out' moment. He gets it. Your fatigue is met with understanding, not a checklist for improvement.
So right here, in your drained state, something shifts. The burden doesn't disappear, but the loneliness of carrying it does. You are seen in your exhaustion, known in your depletion, held in your honest 'I have nothing left.' That's the gift. Not a solution, but a presence that makes the weight bearable because you're no longer bearing it alone.
You're held. That's the whole story.
A prayer for today
My breath feels shallow. My reserves are gone. You see the empty gauge. I'm bringing You the drained feeling—the hollowed-out space where energy used to be. I don't have a refill to offer, only this admission: I'm worn out. Thank You that my weariness isn't news to You. Thank You that You're not waiting for me to recharge before You come close. You are here, in the depletion. Your kindness is filling the empty spaces I can't fill myself. I am held, even here. Especially here. That's enough. Amen.
