Isaiah 66:13

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

It's been a long week. You feel frayed, short-tempered, and anything but good. And somewhere in the back of your mind, a quiet voice says: get yourself together before you come to God. Show up clean. Show up calm.

That voice is wrong.

"As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you." Think about what a mother actually does when her child is crying — red-faced, messy, not making any sense. She doesn't cross her arms and wait for the child to calm down first. She moves toward the child. The mess is exactly what brings her running.

God says He is like that with you.

He is not standing back right now, waiting for you to clean up before He comes near. He is moving toward you — toward the exhaustion, toward the bad week, toward the part of you that feels like it's falling apart. The mess is not keeping Him away. The mess is what draws Him closer.

You don't have to be presentable. You are already wanted, right here, exactly as you are.

A prayer for today

I’m not clean. I’m not put together. I’m just tired. Thank You that You don't require me to be presentable. You scoop me up. You hold me close. I let myself be held. I let myself be small. Amen.

Your First Week · You're tired and maybe a little skeptical. This first week is simply a quiet space to be surprised by small moments of peace, exactly as you are.
