Psalm 62:1

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.”

You slept last night. Maybe a full eight hours. And you still woke up tired.

That is a real and confusing thing to experience. It makes you wonder if something is wrong with you, or if rest itself is broken.

But the Psalmist put his finger on exactly this. He didn't say, "Truly my soul finds rest in sleep." He said, "Truly my soul finds rest in God." There are two different kinds of tired. One is in your body. The other is deeper than that, somewhere in the part of you that no amount of sleep can reach.

Your soul is worn out. And the soul was never designed to restore itself through sleep, or through doing more, or through getting your circumstances in order. It was made to rest in God.

That deeper rest is available to you right now. Not after you sleep better. Not after life calms down. Right now, as tired as you are, your soul can find what it has been looking for — because God is still here, and He is where the rest actually comes from.

A prayer for today

I am tired, God. Tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. Thank You that my soul can rest in You, not in having it all figured out. I stop looking for the fix. You are what I was made for. I settle into You right now. Amen.
