Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

Your phone screen is dark. You’ve been staring at it without seeing, the blue light glow long faded. The silence of the room feels thick, pressing in where the day’s noise used to be. It’s in that quiet that you feel it—the tight coil of worry wound deep in your chest, a spring loaded with everything unsaid and everything undone.

That coil makes sense. The tension is a logical response to a world that feels like it’s spinning too fast. You don’t have to apologize for it or convince yourself it shouldn’t be there. It’s just… there. A knot of what-ifs and not-enoughs.

'You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.' That’s not a suggestion—it’s an invitation with your name on it. Notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t say 'you will manufacture perfect peace through sheer mental force.' It doesn’t say 'you will achieve a steadfast mind by trying harder.' It says you will be *kept*. Held. Guarded. The peace isn’t yours to create; it’s yours to receive. The trust it mentions? It’s not a white-knuckled grip on certainty. It’s the slow, quiet exhale of leaning your weight onto something solid that was there all along. It’s the unwinding of the knot, not because you figured out how to untie it, but because a deep breath is being given to you, and that breath begins to loosen what felt permanent.

So picture that coil in your chest. Feel its tightness. And then picture a warmth spreading through it, not by your command, but as a gift. The spring relaxes. The knot slips. You don’t have to do the work of unwinding. You just have to stop fighting the hand that’s already doing it. The peace is already moving in, displacing the worry, filling the spaces that were clenched tight.

Let the unwinding happen. You are being kept. You are being held steady. Go gently into this night. You are safe.

A prayer for today

Wound-up. That’s the state of things. You see the coil, God, the tension I can’t seem to release. I’m bringing You the knot of it—the worry, the spin, the silent pressure. I don’t have the strength to untangle it myself. Thank You that I don’t have to. Your promise is the deep breath my soul needs. You are the one doing the keeping, the holding, the guarding. I am being kept in peace, not because my mind is perfectly steadfast, but because Your grip is. So here, I stop fighting. I lean into the solidness of You. Let Your peace be the warmth that loosens what I’ve held too tight. I am held. That is enough. Amen.
