Psalm 94:19
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
Before you read another word, take one breath. Just one. Feel the air move in and out. Your thoughts are like a carousel you didn't choose to ride: replaying conversations, worrying about tomorrow, tallying what you didn't finish. The spinning is real. You're just trying to stay on.
Of course you're tired. The noise in your head makes perfect sense after a day like this. The racing thoughts aren't a sign you're failing at peace. They're proof you're living a real, full, human life. You don't have to apologize for them.
Here is what the psalmist knew from experience: 'When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.' Notice the order. The anxiety was great first. It was present, real, and overwhelming. And then—consolation. Joy. Not as a reward for calming down, but as something that arrived right into the middle of it. God's comfort doesn't wait for you on the other side of a quiet mind. It comes to where you actually are.
That is the answer to the question your exhausted brain keeps circling: yes, comfort reaches you here. It reached the psalmist in his great anxiety. It reaches you in yours. The spinning doesn't block it. The racing doesn't delay it. You don't have to get quieter first.
Breathe in. The comfort is already here. Breathe out. You are not alone in the spin.
A prayer for today
My breath feels shallow. My thoughts are a tangled knot. You see the spin. I'm bringing the racing, the worrying, the unfinished list—all of it—to You. I don't have the strength to untangle it. Your consolation is my only anchor. Thank You that Your comfort doesn't wait for my mind to go quiet. Thank You that it reaches me right here, in the middle of the chaos. I am known in it. That is enough. Amen.
