Psalm 6:6

“I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.”

Notice the ache in your shoulders. The tightness in your jaw. The way your body has been holding the echoes of the day—the conversation that didn’t go right, the thing you wish you’d said, the worry that’s been looping on repeat. Your muscles are tired from carrying what your mind won’t let go of. The heaviness is real, and it’s settled deep.

That heaviness makes sense. You’ve been carrying echoes, and echoes have weight. The replay isn’t just in your head; it’s in your bones. You’re worn out from the groaning, from the internal flood that no one else sees. The psalmist knew this feeling intimately: 'I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.' This isn’t a description of failure; it’s a description of being human. It’s permission to name the exhaustion.

Right now, in this breath, something is happening. That weight you’ve been carrying—the echoes, the replay, the heaviness—it doesn’t have to be yours to hold. You’ve been believing that carrying it is your job, that you must sit with the flood until it dries up. But the gift here is that you are seen in your wearing-out. You are known in your groaning. And being seen doesn’t mean you’re told to try harder; it means you’re being invited to hand over the burden. The echoes can stop bouncing around in you because they’re being absorbed into a silence that’s bigger. The heaviness can be transferred to hands that were made to hold it. You are not the container for this ache. You are the beloved one from whom the ache is being gently, steadily lifted.

Morning will come with its own kindness. For now, rest. The replay is slowing. The echoes are fading into a quiet that holds you. You can stop carrying now. The work of holding has been taken from you.

A prayer for today

I don’t know how to pray tonight. The words feel stuck somewhere behind the tired. So I’m just… here. You see the flood. You know the weight of the echoes I’ve been replaying all day. I am worn out from my own groaning. Thank You that I don’t have to find the right words to make the heaviness leave. You are already holding it. The tears, the replay, the ache—they are being received by You. I am not the container. I am the one being emptied. I am held in the quiet. That’s enough for tonight. Amen.
