Psalm 36:8

“They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.”

What if your energy isn't something to hoard, but something to spend? You know the feeling. You wake up already calculating the cost of the day ahead. You parcel out your attention, your patience, your focus like a dwindling supply. You protect the last drops in the tank, afraid that if you give too much, you'll be left with nothing. The voice whispers that you must conserve, that running on empty is a failure, that exhaustion is a sign you did it wrong.

Let's call that voice a liar. Because here is a different story, painted in watercolors of abundance. 'They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.' This isn't a picture of a carefully measured ration. This is a feast. This is a river—wide, deep, and constantly moving. Your life, your spirit, your very energy is meant to be part of that flow, not a stagnant pond you worry will evaporate.

Think of a river. It gives itself to the landscape without hesitation. It waters the banks, turns the mills, carries the boats. It spends itself freely, and yet it is never spent. Why? Because its source is not within itself. It is fed by springs deep in the mountains, by rains from the sky, by a cycle of giving and receiving that never ends. Your vitality works the same way. When you live from the fear of running out, you dam up the flow. You become a reservoir, watching the water level drop with anxiety. But when you live from the truth of the river, you can spend yourself joyfully—in love, in work, in creativity—knowing the source is not you. The source is the endless kindness of God, the river of delights that never runs dry.

You are invited to the feast. You are invited to drink deeply, not sip cautiously. Your worth is not tied to how much you have left in the evening. It is tied to the boundless love that seeks to flow through you. So let it. Let the clench of scarcity in your chest loosen. Something in you is already softening, turning from stone to stream bed. The current is gentle but sure. It carries you. It replenishes you. You don't have to find the source. The source finds you.

Let that settle. No response needed.

A prayer for today

Scarcity. That's the mindset I've been living in, God. Treating my spirit like a battery with a failing charge. I'm tired of the math, the constant calculation of what I can afford to give. Your word says feast. Your word says river. So I'm stepping out of the reservoir and into the current. You are the spring. You are the endless source. I am carried. I am replenished, not by my own efforts, but by Your constant flow. Thank You that I can spend this love, this energy, this life—freely, wildly, without fear. Because the river never runs dry. And I am swimming in it. Amen.
