1 Kings 19:7
“The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, 'Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.'”
You are not supposed to say it out loud: this is too much for me. It feels like admitting defeat. So you keep going, keep coping, keep telling everyone you're fine.
Elijah hit that wall. He had just come through the biggest moment of his life, and right after it, he collapsed under a tree in the desert and asked to die. He was done.
Here is what God did not do: He did not give a pep talk. He did not say "you can handle this." He sent an angel with fresh bread and water, and let Elijah sleep. Then the angel woke him to eat again, saying, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you."
Too much for you. God said it first. The thing you are afraid to admit — He already knows it, and He is not disappointed. He does not respond to your limits with a lecture. He responds with bread, water, and sleep.
You can say it now: this is too much. That is not giving up. That is where God starts.
A prayer for today
It is too much, Lord. I have been afraid to say it. But You said it first: the journey is too much. You are not disappointed in my limits. You answer them with bread and rest. I am going to sleep now. Amen.
