Mark 6:31

“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, 'Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.'”

You feel like stopping is giving up. Like the moment you sit down, something terrible will happen — an email unanswered, a need unmet, a person let down. Busyness feels like faithfulness. Stopping feels like a betrayal.

But here is what actually happened one ordinary afternoon: the crowds were pressing in on Jesus and His disciples from every direction. People needed healing. People needed teaching. The line never got shorter. And Jesus said, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."

He said this out loud. He did not squeeze rest in after everything else was done. The needs were still there — real, urgent, unfinished — and He walked away anyway. Not because the people didn't matter. Because rest was something He decided His people needed, right then, even with the world still asking.

The pressure you feel to keep going is not the voice of faithfulness. Jesus already settled the question. It is okay to stop. He said so first.

A prayer for today

I keep acting like everything depends on me. But You said it first: come away and rest. So I am stopping now. The world is Yours to run. I trust You enough to sleep. Amen.
