Psalm 55:22

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

You're lying awake, running the old tape again. The memory settles across your shoulders, heavy and familiar. You know its shape. You've been carrying it so long you've forgotten what it feels like to stand up straight.

The ache is real. You don't have to be over it. Some things leave a mark, and that's honest, not weak.

Here is what God says about that weight: "Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." The word "cast" is active—it describes something being thrown, handed over, put down. And the promise on the other side is plain: He will sustain you. Not "He might," not "He will if you do it right." He will.

That means the weight can actually move. Not because you finally worked up the courage, but because there are hands on the other side ready to receive it. He does not grow tired of holding what you've carried. He does not calculate whether your burden is worth His attention. He takes it.

The memory may still surface. But its weight doesn't have to stay on you. The promise is that you are held steady by Someone who does not shake—so you don't have to either.

You can stop gripping it tonight. He has you.

A prayer for today

Thank You that I don't have to arrive polished. Thank You for seeing the weight I've been carrying and for not being surprised by it. I'm bringing that old ache to You now—the memory that feels so solid, so heavy. I've carried it long enough. You are taking it. My shoulders are empty. I am sustained by You, not by my own strength. I am held steady by a promise that doesn't depend on my grip. Right here, in this lightness, I breathe. I am unshaken because You never let go. That's enough. Amen.
