Psalm 147:3

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

The pillow is cool against your cheek. The house has finally gone quiet, but the memory hasn't. It plays on a loop behind your eyes—not the whole story, just the sharpest fragment. The one that still makes you flinch when it surfaces, a ghost with rough edges that hasn't learned how to stop hurting.

You don't have to pretend it doesn't ache. You don't have to rush to call it 'healed' when it still feels tender to the touch. The weight of that past moment is real, and carrying it has left its mark.

'He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.' That's not a theory or a distant hope. It's an active, present-tense promise happening right now, in the quiet of this room. The healing isn't about the memory disappearing. It's about its power being disarmed. The binding isn't a quick cover-up; it's a careful, thorough wrapping. Picture a wound being cleaned and dressed with such tenderness—not to hide it, but to protect it so it can become what it's meant to be: a scar.

A scar is not a wound. A scar is evidence. It's a story of what was, but it's also proof of survival, of skin knitting itself back together over what was broken. The sharp edges are being smoothed, even now, even as you remember. The binding is happening. You are not being asked to do the softening work yourself. You are being invited to notice it. To feel where the memory rests and no longer stings with the same ferocity. To recognize that the story is changing from one of active hurt to one of having been carried through.

The past is being held for you. The binding cloth is kindness itself, wrapping around what was broken until it becomes simply a part of your story, not the whole of it. The edges are softening. You can feel them going blunt, losing their ability to cut you fresh. You are surviving, and that survival is being tenderly sealed over, moment by moment, breath by breath.

A prayer for today

Honestly? This memory still feels sharp sometimes, God. I wish it didn't. I'm bringing You the ache—the specific one that surfaced tonight. You see the exact shape of it. Thank You that healing isn't my job to perform. You are the one doing the binding. You are wrapping this tender place with a kindness that doesn't rush. I am being held in the middle of the remembering. The story is changing from a wound to a scar, and that change is Your quiet work. I am not fixing; I am being mended. Let that be enough for tonight. Thank You. Amen.
