Psalm 69:3
“I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.”
Can we be honest? You're not just tired. You're worn thin from the waiting. The strain of looking for an answer, a sign, a change—it's left your throat parched from calling out and your eyes tired from searching. You've been scanning the horizon for so long, hoping to see something, anything, that makes sense of this season. The effort of holding on, of staying hopeful when nothing seems to move, is a real weight.
It makes complete sense that you feel this way. The weariness isn't a sign you're doing it wrong; it's proof you've been showing up. Your eyes are failing because you've been looking with such hope. Your throat is dry because you've been using your voice, asking for help. This exhaustion is understandable. You don't have to apologize for it or dress it up as something more spiritual.
Listen to the raw honesty in these words: 'I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.' This isn't a polished prayer from someone who has it all together. This is the cry of someone who is spent, who has nothing left. And here's the gift: this cry was written down, saved, and given to you. Your exact feeling—the strain, the parched throat, the failing eyes—has a place in this story. You are not alone in your weariness. You are met right in the middle of it. The One you're looking for sees you looking. He hears the call that has worn your voice thin. Your exhaustion doesn't push you away; it's the very thing that draws His attention. You are understood, completely, in the fatigue of the wait.
Right now, in this breath. The searching can stop. The looking can rest. You don't have to see the answer to be held by it. You are met, right here, in the honest admission of your weariness. This moment is enough.
A prayer for today
Thank You for this honest scripture. For the gift of knowing my worn-out feeling isn't foreign to You. My throat is dry from hoping. My eyes are tired from looking. You see the strain. I am worn out. And I am met right here. You are not distant from this exhaustion; You are present within it. My parched hope is held by Your endless kindness. I don't have to find more strength. I am being held by Yours. The wait continues, but I am resting now. Thank You for understanding. Amen.
