Psalm 6:6

“I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.”

What if the silence you're carrying isn't empty, but full? It's the heavy quiet after the news you didn't want to hear. It's the space between 'what was' and 'what might be,' and it feels less like waiting and more like drowning in air. Your chest is tight. The thoughts won't line up into words. There's just this ache, this flood of tears held back behind your eyes because if you start, you're not sure you can stop.

The weight makes sense. The weariness is a real thing in your bones. You're not broken for feeling the gravity of this moment—the pause that demands patience you don't have, the quiet that echoes with everything left unsaid. This isn't a failure of faith. It's the honest cost of being human in a world that hurts.

Listen to the raw honesty given to us: 'I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.' That's not a cleaned-up, Sunday-school prayer. That's a soul laid bare, a body exhausted by its own sorrow. The flood you're afraid of? It's already been named. The weariness that feels isolating? It's already been spoken into the dark. And here is the reversal, the beautiful, grounding flip: the One who receives this prayer, who recorded these exact tears, is the same One holding you now. Your heavy quiet isn't a sign you've been abandoned. It's proof you are known. The flood of tears you're containing isn't too much. It's already being contained by hands that shaped the oceans.

You don't have to fix the pause or fill the silence. You don't have to translate this ache into something productive or spiritual. The work isn't yours to do. The work is being done *for* you, in the quiet, beneath the weight. Your only task is to stop fighting the gravity. Let your shoulders drop. Let the breath you've been holding finally leave your lungs. The pause is heavy, yes. But you are not holding it alone. It is being held for you.

You can stop holding it together now. Really. It's allowed. Let the quiet be what it is. Let the tears come if they need to. You are safe here, in the weight, in the pause, exactly as you are.

A prayer for today

Naming it: this heavy quiet. Naming the truth: You are here in it. God, I am worn out. My soul is groaning with words I can't find. There's a flood inside—of fear, of sadness, of just plain tired—and I'm so afraid of what happens if the dam breaks. But You already know the water's name. You are not surprised by the depth of it. You are the shore this flood meets. You are the ground beneath this unbearable pause. So I am here. I am not fixing. I am not explaining. I am simply letting the weight be weight, and trusting that Your hands are underneath it all. Thank You that my weariness is not a problem for You to solve, but a reality You meet with kindness. I am held. That is enough. Amen.
