Psalm 18:36
“You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.”
'You're going to slip.' That voice. The one that watches your every step, predicting the stumble before it happens. It whispers about the shaky ground ahead, the hidden cracks, the way your own strength has failed before. You feel it in your knees—a slight tremble, a readiness to brace for impact. The world feels unstable, and the inner critic insists you're the reason why.
That fear makes sense. When you've felt the ground shift before, it's natural to walk on tiptoes, waiting for the next tremor. The weight of staying upright can exhaust you. You've been believing that steadiness is a skill you must master, a balance you earn through perfect concentration.
Picture this: you don't have to find your footing. It's been found for you. The scripture says, 'You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.' This isn't a hopeful suggestion for the future. It's a present-tense declaration. Right now, a path is being laid out beneath you. Not a narrow, treacherous ledge you must inch across, but a broad, generous road. Your foundation isn't something you build with your own shaky hands. It's a sure foundation, already set, immovable and deep. You are anchored, not by the strength of your own grip, but by a weight that holds you fast. Think of it as a rich store—a limitless supply of stability you didn't stockpile, placed within you, ready for the moments you feel most empty.
This changes your posture. You can stop clenching. You can stop scanning for threats. The solid ground isn't a reward for getting it right; it's the gift you stand on while you're still figuring it out. Your ankles don't have to give way because they are being held steady by a love that doesn't waver. The anchor holds. The store is full. The foundation is sure. You are steadied, completely and finally, from the inside out.
A prayer for today
Honestly? I feel wobbly. The ground beneath my thoughts feels soft, and I'm bracing for a fall. I'm tired of this balancing act. Thank You that my stability isn't my job. Your promise is the anchor—You are holding me fast to what's true. I am steadied. This broad path for my feet? You are providing it right now. My ankles are being kept from giving way. I don't have to muster strength. I am standing on a foundation You laid. That's my whole prayer tonight. I am secure because You are sure. Amen.
Standing, Not Just Surviving · Life feels unstable, like ground that keeps shifting beneath your feet. Here, you are offered a firmer foundation—a love that holds you steady, so you can finally stand.
