Hebrews 13:5

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."”

The door just closed. The car pulled away, and now it is just you in the quiet. That hollow feeling in your chest after a goodbye is real. And underneath it, a deeper worry: what if love always works this way? What if it shows up for a while, then eventually packs up and goes?

That fear is not weakness. It is what happens when you have watched enough doors close.

But here is what God said, directly: "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Not "I will try to stay." Not "I will stay as long as you hold up your end." Never. That word is doing serious work. It rules out every version of leaving — the slow drift, the quiet exit, the gradual cooling. All of it is ruled out by one word God chose on purpose.

Picture love that shows up with no suitcase. No bag by the door. No half-packed boxes. It walks in and stays — not as a guest counting the days, but as something permanent. That is the love described in this promise. It is not conditional on how you are doing. It is not a trial arrangement. It simply does not leave.

You do not have to earn another day of it. You cannot run it out. God will not get tired and go. That is the whole answer to the fear — and it is settled.

A prayer for today

To You, I bring the hollow feeling that goodbyes leave behind. The quiet worry that love runs out eventually — even Yours. But Your word says "never." Never will You leave. Never will You forsake me. I am holding onto that word tonight. You are not here on a trial basis. You are not counting my failures or measuring my worth. You simply stay — not because I earned it, but because You said so. Thank You for a love with no exit plan. I am settled in that tonight. Amen.
