Psalm 73:23

“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.”

There is a feeling that creeps in quietly, usually at night. A sense that you are floating—not dramatically, but slowly—away from anything solid. Decisions pile up. People you counted on have drifted or disappeared. And somewhere in the back of your mind is the question you might not even say out loud: is anyone actually holding on to me, or am I just holding myself together?

The psalmist knew that feeling. He watched the world going wrong and nearly lost his footing. And then he wrote this, simply: 'Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.'

Notice what he did not say. He did not say he finally found the strength to hold on. He said he was being held. God's hand, wrapped around his. That's the whole picture—not the psalmist gripping tight, but God reaching out first and not letting go.

That is what is true about you right now. Not that you need to find better footing, or believe harder, or get yourself together. God's hand is already around yours. You are not floating on your own. You are being held by the One who said 'always'—not 'usually,' not 'when you're doing well.' Always.

You can stop white-knuckling it. The hand is there. It was there before you noticed.

A prayer for today

God, I've been trying to keep my own grip tight enough. I didn't know how tired my hands were until just now. Thank You that You are the One doing the holding. Your hand around mine—that's the whole story. I don't have to manufacture steadiness I don't feel. You already have me. I am not on my own. That is the truth I'm resting in tonight. Amen.
