Romans 8:38-39
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Before you read another word, take one breath. Just one. Let your eyes rest here. Maybe you’ve been holding that breath all day—waiting for a verdict, scanning for a sign that you’re on the right path, that you’re enough. That hesitation in your chest? The quiet fear that you might lose your footing, that your worth is tied to your next move? It makes sense. You’re human, built to crave solid ground.
Your search for a foundation that doesn’t shift is not a flaw. It’s the deepest, truest longing you have. And here is the scandalous, beautiful news: that search is over. The security you’re aching for has already been handed over to you. It was settled before you took your first breath. Listen to this, let it sink into the places that feel shaky: 'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God.'
Nothing in your past, your present failure, your future uncertainty—nothing you can imagine or fear—has the power to cut the connection that endures. This love is not a reward for good behavior. It’s not a grade on your performance. It is the foundation itself, the bedrock beneath your feet that doesn’t move when you stumble. You are held in a grip that does not loosen. Your identity, your belonging, your 'enough-ness' is not something you must protect or prove. It is sealed. It is kept. It is yours.
This is the permission slip you didn’t have to write: you are free to be exactly as you are—questioning, weary, uncertain—and still be completely, irrevocably loved. The work of securing you was finished long ago. Your only job is to stand on what’s already true.
Let that settle. No response needed.
A prayer for today
Honestly? I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. I keep bracing for the love to run out, for my footing to finally slip. God, my grip is so tired from trying to hold on to my own worth. Thank You that my security was never in my hands to begin with. You are holding me. I am held in a connection that endures, not because of my strength, but because of Yours. This love You have settled on me—it cannot be lost. I am anchored in a kindness I did not earn. So here, in my exhaustion, I stop searching for solid ground. I am already standing on it. Thank You. Amen.
