Isaiah 40:11
“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.”
You are keeping score. Did I do enough today? Did I keep up? When you feel yourself falling behind — at work, at home, in your faith — a quiet fear creeps in: maybe God moves on to the people who can keep pace.
But listen to what the shepherd actually does. "He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart." He doesn't gather the fastest ones. He gathers the lambs — the small, the stumbling, the ones who simply can't keep up.
Your falling behind is not a disqualification. It is the very reason He reaches down. He doesn't look for speed. He looks for you. And when He finds you worn out and struggling, He doesn't wave you forward. He picks you up.
The journey still happens. You still get there. But it happens in His arms, not on your feet. That is not a consolation prize. That is the whole point.
A prayer for today
I can’t keep up. I’m tired of running. Pick me up, Shepherd. Carry me home. Amen.
