Psalm 18:2
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
You are holding up the ceiling. You have become the steady one — the person your family counts on, the one who doesn't fall apart. And you are exhausted from it.
But look at what the psalm says: "The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer." Not you. Him. You are not supposed to be the fortress. You are supposed to live inside one.
Somewhere along the way you switched roles. You took on the job of keeping everything standing — holding people together, staying calm when others couldn't, never letting anyone see you buckle. And that job was never yours to begin with.
God doesn't need you to be strong for everyone. He is the one holding things up. You can let your arms down. You can admit you are tired. The Rock doesn't get weaker when you stop pretending to be one.
You are not the foundation. You are the one who gets to rest on it.
A prayer for today
I resign as the rock. I let the walls come down. You be the Fortress. I will be the resident. Amen.
