Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
You built those walls for a reason. Something hurt you, and you closed up to protect yourself. Now you feel guilty for being guarded—like the walls themselves are a problem between you and God.
They're not. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." He doesn't pull back when He sees the walls. He moves closer. He knows what's behind them—the old wound, the quiet fear, the part of you that still hurts. He isn't standing outside demanding you tear everything down before He'll help you.
He's already close. The walls didn't push Him away.
And here's what that means: the walls were never a sin. They were how you survived. God sees that. He's not angry at you for building them. He just wants to get to the hurt underneath—not to judge it, but to tend it.
You don't have to knock everything down today. You just have to know He's on your side of the wall.
A prayer for today
I built these walls to stay safe. But You are already here with me. You know the hurt I've been protecting. Tend it, Lord. Amen.
