Psalm 31:8

“You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.”

There's a word for this feeling. It's called 'performing.' Your heart has been on a stage all day, trying to hit the right notes, say the right lines, earn the right applause. Maybe it was for your boss, your family, your friends, or that invisible audience in your head that keeps score. The performance is exhausting, and the curtain never seems to fall.

The weight of that act makes sense. Of course you're tired. When your worth feels tied to a review you can't see, you learn to keep dancing even when the music has stopped. You've been believing that staying in character is required, that the show must always go on.

But listen to this, a promise spoken directly into your weariness: 'You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.' Picture that. A spacious place. Not a cramped dressing room where you frantically change costumes. Not a narrow tightrope you have to balance on. A wide, open room. The door is open, and you are invited to walk in and just… stop. This is the quiet room prepared just for you. In here, there is no script. No audience. No metrics for how well you're being you. Your heart, the one that’s been forcing itself to beat in time with everyone else’s expectations, is finally allowed to find its own rhythm. It can be tired. It can be quiet. It can be unsure. It can simply be.

This spaciousness isn't something you build or earn. It's a gift. You are being led there now. The One who made your heart knows its true, unforced tempo. He isn't waiting for a better performance; He's offering a permanent intermission. Your feet are already on this new ground—solid, wide, and free. The endless hustle to prove yourself ends at the threshold. You cross it not by doing, but by being received.

Let that truth fill the room. Let it settle. No response needed.

A prayer for today

'You have set my feet in a spacious place.' You said it. I'm standing here, in the quiet You made. The noise of the performance is fading. Thank You that this room has no stage. Thank You that my heart doesn't have to perform for You. I am held in this kindness I didn't earn. I am safe in this acceptance I couldn't manufacture. My trying can stop. Your peace is the only sound in the room now. I am here. You are here. That is the whole prayer. Amen.
