Psalm 62:1

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.”

The conversation just ended. You hung up the phone or walked away, and now there's just this quiet. A quiet filled with the echo of old words, a familiar ache you thought you'd dealt with. The expectation hangs in the air, heavier than the hurt itself: you should be over this by now. You should have forgiven.

That pressure you feel? It makes sense. It's the weight of a deadline you never agreed to, a timer someone else set on your healing. The lie that says forgiveness is a task on your to-do list, and you're failing because it's not checked off.

Picture this: there is no deadline. The timer isn't real. That heavy expectation to 'get over it'? Watch it fall away now, like a weight dropping from your shoulders, leaving you lighter. The psalmist writes, 'Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.' Notice the verb. Your soul *finds* rest. It's not something you manufacture through sheer willpower or by hitting a spiritual milestone. It's discovered in the stopping, in the ceasing of the struggle. Your rescue, your being-made-whole, comes from Him. It's sourced outside of you, which means you don't have to source the strength to forgive from your own depleted reserves. You are under no obligation to force a feeling that isn't there yet.

This is permission to breathe in the space between the hurt and the healing. You are allowed to be exactly where you are—aching, confused, resistant. The door to rest isn't locked behind a requirement you can't yet meet. It's open, waiting for whenever your soul is ready to stop striving and simply be found. The work of making things right was never yours to complete alone.

So let that imagined deadline dissolve. The morning will come with its own light and its own gentle pace. For tonight, your only task is to exist, held in a kindness that isn't impatient with your process. You are loved right in the middle of the not-yet. That is more than enough.

A prayer for today

Honestly? I'm tired of trying to feel something I don't. The pressure to wrap this up neatly, to say the words and mean them—it's exhausting. I'm bringing You the mess instead: the resentment that feels stuck, the memory that still stings. Thank You that You receive me here, in the unresolved middle. You are not tapping Your foot, waiting for me to get it together. You are holding the entire timeline of my healing, so I don't have to. My rest is found in You, not in my performance. I am held in a patience deeper than my own. So tonight, I breathe. An unforced breath. That is my prayer. It is enough. Amen.
