Hosea 6:1
“Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.”
You want to be whole, but you're afraid to touch the broken places. You want the mending, but you dread the feeling of being torn. Both are true. The ache for healing and the fear of what it might ask of you can exist in the same tired heart.
It makes sense. After being hurt—by others, by life, by your own choices—the instinct is to guard the wound. To pretend it's not there, or to believe you must fix it yourself before you're allowed to ask for help. You've been thinking that healing is a destination you must march toward, bandages in hand, ready to perform your own surgery.
Right now, in this breath, something is happening. The scripture doesn't say, 'Go get healed.' It says, 'Come... he will heal us.' The mending isn't a project you initiate. It's an arrival. It meets you in the honest, unvarnished place you're already standing. 'He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.' Notice the sequence: the acknowledging comes first—the 'yes, this is torn'—and then the healing follows, not as a reward for your honesty, but as its natural, promised companion. The binding of wounds isn't a theory. It's a present-tense action performed by hands that know exactly how to hold shattered things without causing more pain.
This arriving mending doesn't require you to understand the anatomy of your hurt. It doesn't demand a timeline or a five-step plan. It simply comes. To the one who feels too broken to be approached. To the one who has been sitting with the injury, believing it was their permanent address. Your job was never to stitch yourself back together. Your permission slip was simply to stop pretending you weren't bleeding.
Feel that? That's not a new wound opening. It's the old, tight scar tissue beginning to soften under a kindness you didn't earn. The binding is already happening, in the places you've been too afraid to name. You are being cared for, not fixed.
A prayer for today
Naming it: I’ve been holding this hurt like a secret. Naming the truer thing: You see the bandage I put on it, and You’re not asking for a report. I’m bringing You the guarded place. The part I’ve been protecting, thinking I had to keep it safe from even You. I am tired of carrying it. You are the one who binds wounds. You are doing it now. The mending is arriving, meeting me right here in my hesitation. I don’t have to help You or get out of Your way. I am being tended to. Thank You that this healing is Your job, not my homework. I am held in the middle of the unwrapping. That is enough. Amen.
