Luke 10:34
“He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.”
The light from your phone is the only glow in the room. You trace a finger over a familiar scar on your arm — the one you usually hide under a sleeve. And the old question surfaces: does this mean you never fully healed? That somewhere underneath you're still broken, still that person lying on the ground?
That fear makes sense. A scar is visible. It stays. It can feel like evidence that something went wrong and never got fixed.
But look at what this story shows: "He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him." The man left that road with bandages on his skin. A week later, those bandages came off — and there were scars. Those scars were not proof that the rescuer had failed. They were proof that someone had come, poured out what he had, and stayed.
A scar means the wound was tended. It means you were found, not abandoned. The injury is not still open. The care already happened.
You are not a half-finished repair. You are a person who was hurt and was not left there. What is written on your skin is the record of that — not of breaking, but of being met.
You can put your hand down. The scar has already told the true story.
A prayer for today
Thank You that You did not pass me by. I have been afraid that my scars mean I am still broken — still damaged, still not enough. But You are showing me they mean something else: that You came to where I was, that You bandaged what was bleeding, that You stayed. The wound is not still open. The care already happened. I am not a project waiting to be finished. I am someone You have already tended. I rest in that tonight. Amen.
