Colossians 2:13-14
“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”
You’re lying awake, tracing the cracks. Replaying the conversation that went wrong, the promise you didn’t keep, the quiet regret that sits in your chest like a cold stone. The parts of your story that feel fractured, the relationships that seem frayed beyond repair—you’re holding the pieces, wondering how they could ever fit together again.
That weight is real. The ache for wholeness is a deep and human prayer. But here is where the story turns, before you even finish the thought: the mending isn’t waiting for you to figure it out. It has already arrived. It was delivered to your address before you knew you needed it. The scripture puts it plainly: 'When you were dead in your mess… God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all of it, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.'
Read that last part again. The charge. The bill. The record of every wrong that condemned you. It has been torn up. The debt is marked 'PAID IN FULL' in permanent ink, and the receipt was nailed down so it could never be retrieved. This is the covering. This is the wrapping completeness. You are not a project awaiting repair. You are a person already enveloped in a wholeness you did not stitch together. The broken places you’re afraid to touch? They are already held in a kindness that doesn’t ask you to hide them. The forgiveness isn’t a theory; it’s a finished fact. The completeness isn’t a goal on your horizon; it’s a reality wrapping around you in this very moment.
This breath. This quiet room. This is where the truth lands: you are whole. Not because you fixed it, but because you are covered. The work of mending was finished long ago. You are simply, completely, home in it.
A prayer for today
Naming it: the record of wrongs. The list I’ve been keeping in my head. God, You see every line on it. And naming the truer thing: You tore it up. You nailed the pieces where they can’t be found. The debt I thought I owed is canceled. The charge against me is gone. So tonight, I stop trying to repay what’s already been covered. I am held in this completeness that wraps around me without my effort. Thank You that the mending arrived before I did. I am whole because You say so. That is enough. Amen.
