Psalm 68:19

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.”

You want everything to be okay, and you’re terrified it never will be. Both are true. The desire to mend what’s broken—in your relationships, in your own heart, in the world that feels so heavy—is a good and beautiful thing. But the fear that you’re the only one holding the glue, that if you stop for a second everything will shatter? That’s the weight that’s crushing you.

The weight makes sense. You care. Of course you feel the pressure to fix, to solve, to make right. You’ve been believing that repair is your job description, your never-ending assignment. But here’s the shift your soul needs: the job of fixing everything was never yours to finish. Not even close.

'Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.' Read that again, slowly. Who daily bears. Present tense. Right now. Not 'who will bear them if you ask nicely' or 'who bore them once, two thousand years ago.' Who daily, today, in the middle of your anxious scrolling and your replaying of conversations, is bearing. The verb is active. He is doing the carrying. The burden of repair—the cosmic weight of making all things new, the personal weight of healing what you’ve damaged—is on His shoulders, not yours. Your shoulders were never built for that load. His were.

This isn’t permission to stop caring. It’s permission to stop carrying. The burden is being lifted. Not by your strained effort, but by a strength that entered into your weariness and said, 'This is mine now.' You can set down the toolkit you’ve been clutching. You can stop auditing the damage report. The repair of the world, and the repair of you, is in hands that do not tremble, on a back that does not break.

Breathe in. The weight is His. Breathe out. Your hands are empty, and that’s exactly where they belong.

A prayer for today

Thank You for this truth: the burden is Yours. I’ve been carrying a repair kit for so long, my fingers are stiff from clutching it. I thought everything depended on my fixing. You are bearing it. Right now. The weight I feel, the broken things I can’t mend, the relationships that feel fragile—You are carrying them. I am not the glue holding the universe together. You are. So here, in this quiet, I open my hands. I set down the tools. I am relieved of a job that was never mine. I am held by the One who finishes what He starts. That is enough for tonight. Amen.
