John 15:16

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.”

What if your worth wasn't a project to complete? What if the deep-down question of 'Do I matter?' has already been answered, and the answer is a resounding 'Yes'—not because of what you've built, but because of whose you are? You know the feeling. Scrolling through a highlight reel of other people's purpose, wondering if your own story is significant enough. Measuring your days by output, by visible impact, by fruit you can count and hold.

That weight makes sense. In a world that applauds productivity, it's easy to believe that meaning is manufactured. That you must earn your place at the table through hustle and harvest. You've been thinking that being chosen is a reward for good behavior, a prize for the most fruitful.

'You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.' That's not a suggestion—it's an invitation with your name on it. Read it again, slowly. The sequence is everything. You are chosen first. Appointed second. The fruit comes after. Your significance isn't the result of your labor; it's the foundation for it. You are handpicked, not for a task, but for a relationship. The lasting fruit—the kind that nourishes, the kind that remains—grows naturally from the soil of being deeply, irrevocably loved. It's not a quota to meet. It's the overflow of a heart that knows it's home.

You don't have to search for your purpose like a lost key. You don't have to audition or prove you're worthy of the part. The role is already yours. The calling is secure because the Caller is steadfast. Your life has meaning because you are the one He wanted. Right now, in this breath, your name is on His lips. You are significant because you are chosen. That is the truest thing about you.

A prayer for today

'I chose you.' You said it. Tonight, I let those words land. God, I so often feel like I'm auditioning—for love, for purpose, for a spot in the story. I hustle to prove I belong. Thank You that the script is flipped. You chose me. You appointed me. The weight of manufacturing my own meaning is lifting. I am your selected one. The fruit that lasts will grow from this settled truth, not from my striving. I am planted in Your kindness. I am held in Your choice. That is enough. I am enough. Amen.
