Exodus 14:14

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

You have been holding everything together by sheer effort. And underneath all that effort is a real question: if I let go, will anything catch me? Or will it all fall apart?

God answered that question for a group of people backed up against the sea, with an army closing in and nowhere left to run. They were out of options and out of strength. And the word that came to them was this: "The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."

Be still — not because nothing needed to happen, but because everything that needed to happen was about to be done for them. The sea was about to open. They just couldn't see it yet.

This week you have been setting things down. The scorecard. The shoulds. The weight you were never built to carry. Here is where it all lands: the part of your life that requires more strength than you have was never actually assigned to you.

You are not holding everything together. You never were. He is — and He does not need your striving to do it.

You can be still now. It is already being handled.

A prayer for today

I resign, Lord. From holding it all together. The battle was never mine. You fight for me. All that is left for me is to be still. So I am. Right now. Still. Amen.

The Weight of 'Should' · You carry an invisible backpack stuffed with 'shoulds.' This week, it's gently lifted from your shoulders, and you rest in the freeing truth that you are already enough.
