Luke 15:20

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”

You are waiting to feel different before you believe God could be glad to see you. Not perfect — just a little better. A little less of a mess. Then you'll come close.

Jesus told a story about that exact plan. A son who had wrecked everything was walking home, rehearsing his apology — the speech that was supposed to make him acceptable again. He never got to finish it.

"While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him."

While he was still a long way off. Before the apology. Before the cleanup. Before the son could prove anything had changed. The father was not waiting at the door with his arms crossed — he was scanning the road. And the moment he saw his son, he ran.

That is the picture Jesus chose to show what God is like.

You don't have to finish becoming better before you come close. The distance is not a problem for someone who is already running toward you.

A prayer for today

Lord, I had a whole speech prepared about how I'll do better. But You are already running toward me. You saw me from far off, and You didn't wait. So I drop the speech. I am here. Just like this. Held. Amen.

The Weight of 'Should' · You carry an invisible backpack stuffed with 'shoulds.' This week, it's gently lifted from your shoulders, and you rest in the freeing truth that you are already enough.
