Psalm 18:19

“He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”

Everything feels heavy because you are carrying more than anyone can see. Not just your job, your family, your responsibilities — but the shoulds stacked on top: you should be further along, you should handle this better, you should be able to do all of it without complaining.

That weight is real. And here is the part you may have gotten backwards: the heaviness is not proof that you are weak. It is proof that the load is too much. There is a difference, and it changes everything.

Listen to how the Psalmist describes what God did for him: "He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me."

A spacious place. Room to breathe. Room to put things down. That is the direction God moves you — not handing you a heavier pack and telling you to toughen up, but pulling you out into the open.

And look at the reason: because he delighted in me. Not because the Psalmist finished his list. Not because he carried it well. Delight. That is the whole reason.

The crushing feeling was never the plan. The spacious place is.

A prayer for today

God, everything is heavy, and I thought that meant I was failing. But You are not adding weight. You are making room. You pull me into open space — not as a reward, but because You delight in me. I can breathe here. Amen.

The Weight of 'Should' · You carry an invisible backpack stuffed with 'shoulds.' This week, it's gently lifted from your shoulders, and you rest in the freeing truth that you are already enough.
