“I will give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.”
It's that quiet hour when the day's noise has faded but sleep hasn't arrived. You're alone with the echoes — the things you said wrong, the moments you wish you could redo. The person you've been feels very fixed right now. Very permanent.
But here is what Jesus said: "I will give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it."
Picture that stone for a moment. Small, smooth, cool in your palm. And carved into it — not a label from your worst year, not what someone called you, not what you've called yourself — a name that tells the truth about who you actually are. A name written before you made the mistakes you're replaying tonight.
You don't earn this stone. You receive it. That's the whole movement: open hands, a gift placed in them.
Who you are is not locked to who you've been. God already settled that. The new name is not a goal you're working toward — it is already carved, already yours, waiting to be held.
A prayer for today
I'm bringing this to You—the old name I've carried for so long. The one that tastes like regret and sounds like 'not enough.' I'm tired of introducing myself by it. Thank You that my story isn't finished in that chapter. Thank You for the white stone, for the new name already waiting with my truth on it. I don't have to audition for it or clean myself up to deserve it. You are giving it to me. I am being renamed in Your kindness. The old label is being lifted, and the new one is settling in its place—a name of belonging, not of burden. That is the gift. I am receiving it now, with empty, open hands. Amen.
