Psalm 145:18
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
Be honest about why you are here tonight. It is probably not because you love God so deeply. It is because your head is loud, your chest is tight, and you want it to stop. And some part of you wonders if that disqualifies the whole thing — if coming to God just to feel better is the wrong reason to come.
Here is what the psalm says: "The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."
In truth. Not in eloquence. Not with pure motives. Not after you have sorted out whether your faith is real enough. The only thing the verse asks for is honesty — and "I just want to feel better" is about as honest as it gets.
God is not screening calls. He is not checking whether your reasons are spiritual enough before He picks up. Calling out because you are tired and want relief — that is calling out. He counts it. He comes near for it.
You came for the peace. The peace comes with Him. That was never a problem. It was always how this worked.
A prayer for today
God, I'll just say it: I came because I want to feel better. That is the most honest prayer I have. And You said honest is enough. You are near to anyone who calls. So this is me, calling. Amen.
