Zechariah 4:6
“"Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the LORD Almighty.”
The room is dark. Your shoulders still carry the weight of the day—the effort of holding yourself together, of trying to be strong when you had nothing left. You're so tired. And somewhere in the back of your mind sits a nagging worry: if you stop pushing, everything falls apart.
That worry makes sense. You've been running on your own effort for a long time. But here is the word for tonight: "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit," says the LORD Almighty. That is not a command. It is a declaration. Your might was never the plan. Your power was never the source. The Spirit of the LORD is the source—and that Spirit is already at work in you right now, not waiting for you to generate enough energy to deserve it.
This means the strength does not have to come from you. It is given. You do not earn it, produce it, or hold it together. You receive it. The God who spoke those words to a people with no army and no resources is speaking them to you tonight, in your exact weariness. You can stop squeezing. The strength is already yours—not because you found it, but because it was placed in you.
A prayer for today
Thank You for this truth that turns everything upside down. Thank You that strength isn't another item on my to-do list, but a gift already wrapped with my name on it. I'm so tired of my own might. I'm worn out from my own power. So I bring You my empty hands. I bring You my tired spirit. You are holding me now. Your Spirit is filling the hollow places I've been trying to fill myself. I am strengthened. I am secured. Not because I figured it out, but because You promised it. This is enough. I am enough, here in Your hold. Amen.
The Grudge You're Clutching · Holding that grudge feels like clutching a protective shield. This week, your hands are gently opened, and you feel the surprising lightness of letting go—true strength, freely given.
