Psalm 118:24
“The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Before you read another word, take one breath. Just one. Feel the air fill your lungs and leave again.
You've been measuring your day by what you produced, what you felt, whether it sparkled. And today didn't. It was just a Tuesday. Plain. Forgettable. You wonder if a day like that even counts.
That measuring makes sense. The world grades every hour. But here is what scripture says about today—not about a good day or a big day, just this day: 'The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice and be glad in it.' Done. Past tense. Before your alarm went off, God had already acted in this day. The gift was complete before you touched it.
That means the value of today wasn't riding on your output. You didn't have to earn it or fill it with something worth remembering. God did something in this plain, quiet day—and you were in it. That's enough.
You don't have to grade yourself tonight. The day was given. You lived it. That is always enough.
A prayer for today
Honestly? I wanted today to be more. To feel shiny and important. I wanted a story to tell. But it was just… a day. Plain. Normal. Maybe even a little dull. Thank You that You are the God of the spectacular sunrise and the God of the gray Tuesday. Thank You that my value isn’t stored in my highlights. This day You made—this plain, unremarkable day—is still a gift from Your hand. I receive it. I am held in its ordinary hours as surely as in its extraordinary ones. You have done it. So I can stop trying to. My striving can rest. I am glad, simply because You are good. That’s the whole prayer. Amen.
