Lamentations 3:25-26

“The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD.”

We all know the pressure to keep moving. The internal soundtrack that says if you're not producing, you're falling behind. Stillness can feel like a luxury you can't afford, or worse, a failure—a sign you've run out of steam. The quiet wait feels less like a gift and more like a test you're scared to fail.

It makes sense. In a world that worships hustle, waiting quietly can seem passive, unproductive. It goes against every instinct that tells you to fix, to strive, to earn your way forward. The idea of just being here, in the unresolved middle, can make your skin itch with the need to do something.

Right now, in this space where you've stopped scrolling, where you've paused the mental checklist, something is being handed to you. The scripture says, 'The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the rescue of the LORD.' Do you hear the kindness in that? It doesn't say 'good things come to those who hustle.' It says God's goodness is for the one who hopes. The act of waiting itself—the quiet, the stillness—is called 'good.' This isn't a holding pattern. This is the resting place. You are not waiting for the goodness to start. You are waiting within it. The sustenance you need isn't on its way; it's arriving in the stillness you're inhabiting. The strength, the peace, the next breath—it meets you here, in the pause. Your hope isn't a ticket you punch for a future reward. It's the posture that lets you receive what is already being given.

Notice the space that's opening up as you read this. The tight coil of striving in your chest is beginning to loosen. This quiet isn't empty. It's full. It is holding you. You are being sustained, right here, right now, without a single thing you need to do.

A prayer for today

My breath feels shallow, God. The kind that comes from holding on too tight. I bring that to You—this nervous energy that mistakes stillness for wasting time. Thank You that the wait itself is the gift. Thank You that quiet isn't a test of my patience, but a resting place for my soul. You are good. Your kindness isn't something I chase down; it settles over me in this pause. Right now, I am waited for. I am held in this stillness. The sustenance is here. I don't have to manufacture it or earn it. I am receiving it simply by being here, with You. That is enough. Amen.
