Lamentations 3:22-23
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
You are carrying yesterday into today. The weight of what you didn't finish, the word you wish you could take back, the hope that didn't work out. It is all there on your shoulders as you face this new morning.
That heaviness makes sense. There is a voice that says you have to fix yesterday's mess before you can deserve today's kindness. It is a convincing voice. But it is wrong.
"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." The writer of Lamentations said this while sitting in the rubble of real disaster. He was not pretending things were fine. And right there, in the middle of the wreckage, he named what was still true: the compassions did not run out. They showed up fresh.
That word "new" matters. Not recycled. Not a second chance you have to earn. Genuinely new—the same way a morning is new regardless of what the night held. And notice what drives it: not your performance, but His faithfulness. The fresh start does not wait for you to get your act together. It arrives because God is who He is.
So yes—after all your mistakes, you still get this morning. Not because you earned it. Because He does not run out.
A prayer for today
Thank You for the light outside my window. For the simple, undeniable fact that the sun came up again, and with it, a mercy I did nothing to earn. I’m so tired of carrying what’s already been carried for me. The regrets, the old stories, the fear that I’ve used up my chances. You see it all, and You meet me here not with a ledger, but with a gift. Your compassions are new. Right now. For me. I receive this untouched morning. I am held by a faithfulness that doesn’t run out. I rest here, in the settled start You’ve already given. Amen.
