Isaiah 46:4
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
What if the path ahead isn't a test you have to pass? You're staring at the map of tomorrow—all the blank spaces, the question marks, the 'what ifs' scribbled in the margins. Your mind is trying to calculate the distance, measure your strength, figure out if you have what it takes to get there. The weight of all those unknowns is a solid thing on your shoulders, pulling you forward and holding you back at the same time.
Isn't it exhausting, carrying a future you can't even see? What if the ache in your chest isn't a sign you're unprepared, but proof you were never meant to carry this alone? The burden of figuring it all out—does it ever feel like it belongs to someone else?
Listen to this, a promise spoken directly over your weariness: 'Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.' Do you hear the repetition? 'I am he, I am he.' It's a name. A declaration. The One speaking is the same One who formed you. Your future isn't a question He's asking you to answer. It's a path He's already walking, with you in His arms. You are being carried. Not dragged. Not reluctantly escorted. Carried. Like something precious and beloved, your weight settled securely against a strength that doesn't tire. The burden of tomorrow? It was lifted from your shoulders before you ever tried to pick it up. The sustaining, the rescuing—it's not a maybe. It's a 'will.' It's the next breath, and the one after that, and all the ones into a future you can't imagine, already held, already secure. You don't have to know the way. You are known by the Way-Maker.
So right now, feel that shift. The weight you've been holding? It makes sense that you felt it. And now, it's being held for you. The path isn't a tightrope you walk alone. It's a road you're carried along. Are you safe? The arms that hold the universe are the ones holding you. Yes.
A prayer for today
My shoulders have been so tight, God. Carrying this phantom weight of a tomorrow I can't control. I can feel the strain in my neck, the constant hum of planning and worrying. You see the tension, the way I brace myself for a path I haven't even seen. I'm bringing You the whole heavy bundle of 'what comes next.' I am not strong enough to carry it. And I don't have to be. You are carrying me. You are sustaining this very breath. You have made me, and You will not abandon Your work. The rescue is already in motion. So here, I stop straining. I am carried. That is the whole truth I need tonight. Thank You. Amen.
