Psalm 73:23

“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.”

The conversation just ended. The one where you had to sound certain, where you mapped out a plan you're not sure you can follow. You put the phone down. Now it's quiet, and the confident voice you just used feels like a stranger's.

That kind of pretending is exhausting. And when it's over, the ache underneath it all comes rushing back.

Here is the answer you need tonight: 'Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.' Notice the first word—yet. The psalm writer had just admitted to envy, bitterness, and doubt. He was not doing fine either. And God's response wasn't to wait until he had it together. Always. With you. Hand already held.

God does not require the performance before showing up. He was there in the phone call. He is here now in the quiet after it. The word 'always' doesn't have an asterisk. It doesn't say 'except when you're pretending.'

Your right hand is held. It was held through the whole act. You can stop performing now.

A prayer for today

Unsteady. That's the honest word, God. The performance is over, and what's left feels shaky. I'm tired of pretending the ground is solid when it feels like it's moving. Thank You that my stability was never my job to create. You are holding my right hand. You are the settled ground. You are establishing me here, right in the middle of the wobble. I am held. I am grounded. I am secure, not because I feel it, but because You are. That is enough. I am done trying to stand. I rest here, in Your grip. Amen.

Standing, Not Just Surviving · Life feels unstable, like ground that keeps shifting beneath your feet. Here, you are offered a firmer foundation—a love that holds you steady, so you can finally stand.
