1 John 4:7

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”

The coffee is lukewarm now. You're scrolling through a feed of polished lives, or maybe staring at the same three texts you haven't replied to. There's a quiet ache for something more—a real connection, not just another exchange that goes nowhere.

That ache makes sense. You're wired for it. The question underneath is honest: can a smile at the barista, a quick glance that says "I see you"—can that actually count? Or does real connection require something bigger, something deeper than what a Tuesday morning offers?

Here is what the scripture says plainly: "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God." The love it describes is not reserved for long conversations or tearful breakthroughs. It comes from God first and moves through ordinary moments—through the barista who remembers your name, through a friend whose eyes crinkle when they really listen. When genuine kindness passes between two people, that is love from its source, showing up in everyday clothes.

You do not have to manufacture a deeper moment to make it real. The smile you offered this morning was already the real thing. God's love was already in it. You were already home.

A prayer for today

Aching for the real thing, the thread beneath the surface. You know this feeling in me. I get so focused on the life-altering conversation that I miss the love already in front of me. The ordinary feels too small to hold You. Thank You that love comes from You first. That every genuine kindness I offer or receive is already Yours, moving through me. I am connected to that right now, in this quiet kitchen, on this normal day. Let me see the love already here—in a smile, a text, a moment of patience. I am held in this. That is more than enough. Amen.
