Isaiah 43:1
“But now, this is what the Lord says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: 'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.'”
You want to be found, but you're afraid of what will be seen. Both are true. The desire to be fully known wars with the instinct to hide the unfinished parts—the project half-done, the relationship still frayed, the internal monologue that feels more like a tangled knot than a straight line. You’re in the middle of the making, and it feels too messy for company.
The weight of that hiding makes sense. Believing that you must present a finished product to be loved is exhausting. Thinking that the tangled threads of your story need to be sorted before you’re worthy of attention is a heavy burden to carry. You don’t have to untangle it all tonight.
'Do not fear, for I have rescued you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.' That's not a suggestion—it's an invitation with your name on it. Notice the timing. The rescue happens now. The summoning comes here, to this exact moment where you feel most incomplete. This is the gift in the middle: love that doesn't wait for you to arrive at some polished destination. You are being claimed not after the cleanup, but amid the beautiful, complicated mess of becoming. Your name—the one that holds all your specific hopes, fears, and unfinished business—is being called. Not to scold you for the tangle, but to pull you close because of it. You belong because you are His, not because you’ve figured it out. You are rescued because He says so, not because you earned the extraction.
So the threads can stay tangled for now. The work can remain unfinished. The gift has already been delivered to this address, this heart, this weary moment. You are summoned, and that means you are wanted. Exactly as you are. Right where you are.
Breathe in. You are claimed. Breathe out. You are home.
A prayer for today
Thank You that love finds me before I'm ready. Thank You that I don't have to unsnarl every knot in my story to qualify for Your attention. I'm bringing You the half-finished thoughts, the loose ends, the projects I'm too tired to name. You see the tangle and You call my name anyway. You are holding all the threads I can't manage. I am held in the middle of the mess. That is the rescue. That is the gift. I am Yours. That is the only finished thing that matters tonight. Amen.
