Psalm 13:2
“How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?”
Another week down. The tally in your mind is already running: what didn't get done, what you wish you'd said differently, where the day fell short. Your eyes are tired from noticing the cracks. That heavy, colored way of seeing the world — it makes sense.
You're not broken for seeing this way. You're human. But at the end of the day, all that noticing piles up, and you wonder if something is wrong with you for not being able to see the good.
Listen to the psalmist: "How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart?" He didn't clean himself up before praying. He didn't talk himself into a better mood first. He named exactly what was true — the wrestling, the daily sorrow, the feeling of being overcome. And that naming was already a turning. He brought the heavy view straight to God.
You can do the same. You don't have to fix what you see before you come. God isn't waiting for a cheerful report. He receives the honest one. The lens of "what's wrong" doesn't disqualify you from His presence — it's the very thing you can bring in.
A prayer for today
This is all I have tonight: one tired heart, one heavy view. I've been so focused on what's wrong and what's missing. The weight of that is real. I bring it to You — the tally, the sorrow, the daily wrestling. You already see it all. You are not asking me to arrive in a better mood. You receive me as I am. Thank You that my honesty is not a problem for You. I am held here, in the middle of the tally, and that is enough. Amen.
