Psalm 6:6

“I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.”

You're bone-tired but your mind won't stop. You're desperate for an answer but all you have is the same heavy question, hanging in the air like a held breath that's starting to ache. The waiting has worn a groove in you, a familiar path of checking and hoping and coming up empty. It's the exhaustion of a marathon with no finish line in sight.

The weight of 'how long?' makes perfect sense. It's a reasonable burden for a heart that's been holding on. This weariness isn't a sign you're doing it wrong; it's the honest cost of caring in a world that moves slower than your hope. Your patience isn't broken—it's just threadbare from use.

Listen to the raw honesty in the ancient words: 'I am worn out from my groaning. All night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.' This isn't a polished prayer. It's a mess of exhaustion. It's the heavy sigh given a voice. And it was written down, saved, and called sacred. Your own worn-out sigh, the one you've been swallowing? It belongs in that same category. It's a prayer God already knows by heart. The gift here isn't an answer to the 'how long?' It's the permission to stop pretending the waiting is easy. It's the profound relief of being fully seen in your fatigue, not in spite of it. The One you're waiting for isn't waiting for you to get it together. He's sitting with you in the weariness, holding the weight you're too tired to carry alone.

So notice the space that truth makes. The weight doesn't vanish, but it shifts. Someone else is bearing the load. The heavy sigh you've been carrying? You can let it out now. It's been heard. You are seen, exactly as you are—weary, waiting, and utterly held.

A prayer for today

This is all I have tonight: one worn-out groan. The 'how long?' that has worn a hole in my hope. I am tired from the carrying. I am tired from the asking. Thank You that my exhaustion isn't news to You. Thank You that my tears are a language You understand perfectly. You are holding the weight of this waiting. I am held in the middle of it. I don't have to find strength. Yours is holding me up. I am seen. I am stayed. That is enough. Amen.

Facing the 'How Long?' · You're tired of asking 'how long' this hard season will last. A steady hope meets you right here, not with an answer, but with a presence in the middle of the waiting.
