2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

You put your phone down, and in the quiet, the old worry surfaces: am I actually different, or is the same old version of me still running the show? The failures that replay. The patterns that keep coming back. It's a fair question.

Here is the answer the Scripture gives, flat out: 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!' Not almost gone. Not fading slowly if you work at it. Gone. And the new is not on its way — it is here, in you, right now.

The old you does not win, because it has already been displaced. That is not something you accomplished. It is something that was declared over you and done for you. Your part is not to keep proving it or to monitor whether it is holding. Your part is to stop arguing with it.

You are a new creation. That is what is true about you tonight. You do not have to feel it fully to let it be true. Just sit with it. The old is gone. The new is here. That is enough to rest on.

A prayer for today

My breath feels shallow, God. Like I’ve been waiting for permission to inhale fully. You see the tightness, the holding-on. Thank You that the exchange is already complete. The old heart for a new one. The heavy identity for a light one. I am not fixing myself; I am being remade. You have declared the old gone. You have planted the new here, in this moment. So I breathe in. I am Your new creation. I breathe out. The work is Yours. I rest here, in what’s already true. That’s enough. Amen.
