Proverbs 10:25

“When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.”

It’s that hour when the day’s noise fades but sleep hasn’t arrived. The quiet feels heavy, not peaceful. Maybe the storm wasn’t a single event today, but a low, constant pressure—a worry that hums, a responsibility that weighs, a future that feels shaky. You can feel it in your body: a slight tremor in your hands, a tightness across your chest, as if bracing for the next gust.

The feeling makes sense. You’re not imagining the wind. The pressure is real. And the temptation is to believe that your stability depends on the weather report—that your footing is only as good as the ground beneath you, which right now feels like shifting sand.

Picture this: the storm sweeps through, loud and chaotic, tearing at everything temporary. But in its wake, something remains. Not by its own fierce effort, but because it was anchored to something deeper, something the wind couldn’t touch. 'When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever.' This isn’t a description of your grit or your ability to white-knuckle through. It’s a declaration of your new reality. The 'righteous'—that’s you, being made right, being declared unshakable not by your record but by His grip. The 'standing firm' isn’t a posture you muster; it’s a position you’ve been given. A core of quiet certainty, planted deep within you, that the chaos cannot reach.

The storms may still come. They will rattle the windows and howl at the door. But they find you different now. They find you anchored. The noise of what’s falling apart fades against the deeper, quieter truth of what cannot be moved: you are held. Therefore, you stand. Your identity is this pillar of received strength. You don’t have to manufacture calm or dig for resilience. It’s already there, beneath the feeling, a settled fact.

So tonight, you can stop bracing. You can unclench the jaw, soften the shoulders, release the held breath. The work of standing isn’t yours to do. It was done for you. You are safe. You are secure. You are a pillar in the storm, not by striving, but by simply being who you are: held.

A prayer for today

Naming it: the tremor of uncertainty. Naming the truth: You are the anchor. God, my insides can feel like a weathervane, spinning with every change in the wind. I confess I often look for my footing in the shifting sand of circumstances, in my own capacity to hold on. But You are declaring a truer story over me tonight. You are the one who plants that quiet certainty deep within my soul. I am held by You. Therefore, I stand. My stability is Your gift, not my achievement. Thank You that the core of me is secure, fastened to a love that storms cannot touch. I am a pillar of Your received strength. That is my name. That is enough. Amen.

A Pillar in the Storm · The winds howl, but you are not the shaking house. You are the pillar within it, grounded in an unshakable identity that lets you stand firm.
