Psalm 65:8

“The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.”

'You're missing it.' That inner voice again. The one that critiques your pace, that whispers you're rushing past the beauty you're supposed to be finding. That the wonder is out there, waiting for you to finally slow down enough to earn it. That you need to work for your awe.

That pressure to perform your own amazement? It makes sense. In a world that measures value by what you produce, even joy can feel like another item on the checklist. Another spiritual achievement to unlock. You've been believing that awe is a destination you must journey toward, a prize for the attentive and the disciplined.

What if the very thing you're straining to find is already finding you? The scripture flips the script: 'The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.' Did you catch it? The awe fills the earth. The song is already being called forth. This isn't a scavenger hunt you're failing. This is a concert already in progress, and your seat has been saved. You are surrounded by a melody you didn't have to write. The music of dawn and the harmony of dusk—they are a gift placed upon your day, whether you notice them or not.

The wonder settles around you like gentle light. It doesn't demand your focused gaze; it simply fills the spaces you rush through. Your only task is to stop long enough to let your shoulders drop, to let your frantic searching cease, and to receive. Your worth isn't measured by your capacity for wonder. Your value is settled, independent of your ability to perceive the gift. The song plays on. The beauty is already here, woven into the fabric of your ordinary moments.

So let the chase end here. Let the striving for spiritual experience soften into simple reception. The gift is given. The song surrounds. Your gaze can simply rest and receive what is already, lavishly, yours.

Breathe in. The wonder is here. Breathe out. You are part of its song.

A prayer for today

Thank You that I don't have to compose the melody. Thank You that the song of joy is already being sung over the dawn and the dusk, and that it finds me even in my distraction. I'm bringing You my tired eyes that have been scanning the horizon for beauty I thought I had to earn. I'm bringing You the quiet guilt of feeling like I missed the point of the day. You receive it all. You are calling forth the music. I am being invited to listen. The awe is filling the spaces around me, and I am being held within it. I don't have to grasp for it. I am already immersed in it. So here, in this breath, I stop searching. I am found. I am sung over. That is more than enough. Amen.
