“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
A new year. A fresh calendar. Maybe you are already feeling the quiet pressure to make it count, to build something better, to finally get it right. The blank pages look more like a test than a gift.
That weight makes sense. The hope for a clean slate is real, and so is the fear that you will smudge it by Tuesday. You are allowed to feel both.
Here is what the psalm says straight out: "Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life." All the days. Not just January. Not just the days you handle well. Every day of this coming year, God's goodness is already behind you, moving with you, not waiting to see how you do first. You don't have to earn your way into His care for February or October. He has already committed to the whole year.
That word "surely" is not a maybe. It's a guarantee. Whatever this year holds, you will not travel it alone. God's love is already on its way to meet every day before you get there.
A prayer for today
My breath is shallow with anticipation. You see the mix of hope and worry in my chest. Thank You that the new beginning isn’t my job to engineer. It arrives with the sun, a complete gift. Your goodness and love are following me. I am not chasing a feeling of safety; I am being pursued by Your kindness. This year is already held in Your promise. I am dwelling in Your house, not because I built my way in, but because You carried me here. I am home. I am safe. That is enough. Amen.
