Isaiah 43:18-19

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

The screen glows. The room is dark. Your eyes are tired but your mind won't stop—caught somewhere between what happened last year and what might happen next. Starting something new feels like a mountain you're supposed to climb before you've even had a chance to rest.

That heaviness is real. You're allowed to feel it.

But here is what God says straight into that weight: "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."

Notice the tense. He is doing it. Right now. Not waiting for you to get ready, not pausing until you feel motivated. The new thing is already in motion—like a spring that starts underground before anyone sees the water. You didn't start it. You can't stop it. Your job isn't to push this year into being.

You just showed up. That's enough. God was already here, already working, already making a way—for you.

A prayer for today

Thank You that I don't have to dig the well or find the source. Thank You that the new thing springs up before I even perceive it. I'm bringing the weight of yesterday and the fear of tomorrow to You—the wilderness of my thoughts, the wasteland of my weariness. You are already there, making a way. The stream of Your kindness is flowing right here, in this dry place. I am carried by currents I did not create. I am refreshed by water I did not draw. My part is just to notice, to drink, to be here. You are doing the new thing. I am resting in its arrival. That is enough. Amen.
