Psalm 118:24

“The LORD has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.”

There's a word for this feeling. It's called 'the morning dread.' That quiet anxiety as you wake up, already mentally scrolling through the list, already bracing for what might go wrong. The blank page of a new day feels less like an opportunity and more like a demand—a silent expectation that you fill every line with productivity, with answers, with something worthy.

It makes sense. You've been taught that empty space needs filling, that quiet must become noise, that rest is what happens after the work is done. The pressure to make today count can be its own heavy weight, carried right from the first conscious breath.

Picture this: you don't have to write a single word. The page isn't yours to fill. 'The LORD has done it this very day.' That's the scripture. Not 'you will do it.' Not 'you should make it happen.' It is already done. The goodness, the provision, the reason to be glad—it has been authored before your eyes even opened. This blank page? It's not a test. It's a gift, already inscribed with kindness you didn't earn. The sun rose without your permission. Your heart kept beating without your effort. The day was declared good before you ever tried to make it so.

So what if your only job is to receive it? To let the story of grace—of unearned kindness—unfold without your frantic editing? The pressure to perform melts when you realize the performance is already over, and the review was five stars. You are not the author of this day; you are the beloved character, invited to walk through a plot that is already working for your good. The blank page is peaceful because it comes pre-filled with a promise: today is a day the Lord has made. Your presence is the only requirement.

Is that enough? To simply show up and be glad? Yes. It always was.

A prayer for today

Honestly? I woke up anxious. The empty hours ahead feel like a to-do list I haven't even written yet. I'm carrying the weight of potential before the day has even begun. Thank You that the script isn't mine to write. Thank You that this very day is something You have already done. The story is Yours. I am just walking through it. You are holding the narrative. You are providing the peace that makes this blank page feel safe, not scary. I am held in a plot I don't have to control. So here I am. Receiving. Not achieving. I am glad, because You made today. That is enough. Amen.
