Ephesians 2:10

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

One box on the list remains unchecked. You’ve been staring at it. It’s not even the most important thing, but in this quiet moment, it feels like the only measure that counts. The tally of done versus undone starts whispering a story about who you are and what you’re worth.

That whisper is so convincing. It makes perfect sense in a world that grades on completion. Believing that your value is something to be earned, checked off, and proven—it’s a heavy way to live. The weight of that belief makes sense.

Picture this: you walk into a gallery. On the wall is a single, stunning painting. The plaque doesn’t list the hours the artist worked or the number of brushstrokes. It simply says, ‘Masterpiece.’ The artist’s love and intention are in every line; its worth is inherent, complete from the moment it was signed. This is the story God is telling about you. ‘For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.’ You are the signed masterpiece. The ‘good works’ are simply what flows from who you already are—loved, complete, cherished. They are not the entrance fee to worthiness; they are the natural signature of a life already declared priceless.

Your existence alone is the completed work. The checklist didn’t create you, and it doesn’t define you. It might manage your time, but it will never measure your soul. The love that formed you looks at you and sees a finished story of beauty, long before the first item was ever written down.

Let that settle. No response needed.

A prayer for today

Here I am. No script. No polish. Just the quiet pressure of that one thing left undone, and the old lie that it makes me less. Thank You that Your view of me is not a report card. I am Your handiwork—a masterpiece You finished and called ‘beloved’ before I ever started my list. The work You prepared is not a test; it’s the trail of a life already held as complete. So tonight, I am held. I am valued, separate from my output. That is the only truth that matters. Amen.

Your Right to Do Nothing · You feel guilty for simply stopping to breathe. Here, you receive a liberating truth: your right to exist is a gift, not a task to be earned or a privilege to prove.
