Nehemiah 8:10
“The joy of the LORD is your strength.”
The day's noise has finally faded. You're in that quiet space between tasks and sleep, and maybe you feel it—a slight tremble in your spirit. Not grief, not anger. Just nothing. A kind of flatness. The places you thought you were strong feel hollow tonight.
That emptiness is honest. And it's the exact moment Nehemiah 8:10 speaks into: 'The joy of the LORD is your strength.' Notice what it does not say. It does not say your joy is your strength. It says His joy is. The difference matters tonight. On an evening when you feel nothing, your joy is not available—but His is. His gladness over you does not wait for you to feel it before it shows up. It is already the ground you're standing on, whether your feet can sense the solidity or not.
Think of it this way: a house foundation doesn't stop holding the house because the people inside are having a bad night. The Nehemiah crowd heard this on a day they were weeping—the last thing they felt was joyful. And yet the word came: the joy of the LORD is already your strength. It wasn't a feeling they needed to produce. It was a fact they needed to receive.
You don't have to feel anything right now. The joy that holds you is not yours to generate. It is His, and He is not empty tonight.

Flat. That's the honest word tonight, God. Not sad, not afraid. Just empty. I'm bringing You the nothing. Thank You that Your joy doesn't depend on mine. You said it is my strength—not that I have to find it, but that You are it. I am standing on something I cannot feel right now. That has to be enough. And somehow, I believe it is. Amen.
